In a live encounter bringing text loop fragments and cello improvisation together, artist, writer, and performer Tim Etchells is joined by musician and composer Lucy Railton. Drawing on Etchells’ practice, in which language distorts and transforms through repetition, and in dialogue with sound elements, this collaborative performance brings the artists’ individual experiences and perspectives to play, inventing and exploring new material live on stage. The work places a set of text fragments taken from Etchells’ notebook—overheard comments, puzzling images and questions—as voiced interruptions, knots and haunted murmurings within a space set out by intimate, spacious cello improvisations.
This performance is part of Iliggocene – The Age of Dizziness, an expansive project which features a discursive program, screenings and performances across Berlin institutions, as well as an exhibition at KINDL Berlin.
