21 May 2018, 10:00-14:00

Tel Aviv University
Social Sciences Library,
Room 308,

The workshop will begin with a presentation of by Ruth Anderwald and Leonhard Grond entitled: Dizziness as a Resource.

They will first speak about the idea of Taumel (dizziness) as a resource with respect to moving image art. They will then define the notion of dizziness in the field of artistic practice in the greater context of art history and its contemporary philosophical implications. They will elucidate how dizziness breaks up the given, be it habits, beliefs, preconceptions or patterns, creating space and dynamics between established categories and perceived oppositions. In this sense dizziness provides power and dynamics to restructure, to rethink, to redesign the given. Moreover, they will introduce examples of artistic work strategies utilizing dizziness, e.g. Henry Hills, who overcame a personal and artistic crisis by getting dizzy and reflecting on previous experiences of dizziness. Finally, they will speak about their cooperation with creativity research and they will initiate a discussion on how the natural sciences and art can meet and learn together. Following an intermission, short presentations (5-10 min with 0-3 slides, each):
